U7 Welcome Letter

Welcome Parents to U7 Hockey

I’d like to officially welcome you and thank you for registering for the upcoming season. My name is Justin Hougham and I’ll be the U7 director for this season. I wanted to go through and provide some information as the hockey season is approaching.

Evaluation Weekend

U7 evaluations will take place on October 3, 2026, and October 4, 2026.

For the evaluation weekend, kids will be split into 4 groups and skate twice over the weekend. This will be used to create even teams for the season.

  • For the weekend, we need several volunteers which include sign up/jersey handout, jersey washing, on ice help, and evaluators
  • If your child needs help on the ice, don’t sign up as a helper, just go out with them.
  • I will set up a sign-up sheet and email the link out to the parent group.
  • If you have any requests for kids to be together on a team for the season, please have those requests emailed to me before the end of the evaluation weekend. The earlier, the better.

RIS – Respect in Sport

– The Shift Forward program is replacing the previous Respect in Sport course for parents. One parent/guardian must be certified in this course prior to the start of the season. If you have completed the Respect in Sport course, please check to make sure it has not expired. If it expires in 2026, you will need to complete The Shift Forward program. If it hasn’t expired, you do not need to take The Shift Forward course at this time.

Coaching

-If anyone is interested in coaching, please fill out the following coaching application form:

Lloydminster Minor Hockey Coach Application for the 2026-2027 Season – Fill out form

-Each team needs one coach with their coach 1 course for the season to go ahead. There are two of these courses offered in Lloydminster on November 2, 2026 and November 13, 2026. Here is the link to sign up for these courses:

-There needs to be at least 3 people per team willing to go on the ice for practices and on the bench for games for the season to run smoothly. The head coach position does not have to take on sole responsibility of coaching the team but can be a shared role amongst a group of people within the team. I would really encourage you to consider taking the coach 1 course so that you have it for future years to come. The cost of the course will be reimbursed by LMHA.

-Each team also needs one person to take an online safety course as well. Here is the link to the safety course:

 Managers

-Each team will also need a manager. There will be a coaches and managers meeting to assist those volunteers in getting started. An email with further information will be sent shortly after evaluation weekend. If you are interested in being a manager, please come forward early as this will help make the teams come together more smoothly. Here is a link to sign up as a manager:

 U7 Home Tournament

The U7 home tournament is January 30-31, 2027. We will need a tournament chair. If this volunteer position interests you, please let me know. It would be nice to have one in place early so that we can start to get organized once the season gets going. Thank you in advance to whoever takes this on.

FYI, we have put in place a very good “how to” for this position to make it easier.  Each team will also have to assign a person to be on the tournament committee for the year as well.

Feel free to reach out anytime with any questions.
