Lloydminster Minor Hockey 2020 - 2021 Season Cancelation

Hello Lloydminster Minor Hockey Members and Families,

This is an update that was disappointing to write and is even more difficult to communicate out to our LMHA membership. We have been hopeful, since our shutdown on November 27th, that we would get back on the ice and be able to salvage the 2020-2021 hockey season. However, the Government of Alberta’s reopening announcement on Friday brought with it a tremendous amount of uncertainty on when and if the hockey season was viable. Hockey Alberta followed up yesterday afternoon with an announcement that all formalized league play was cancelled for this season.

The Lloydminster Board of Directors has meet and voted to cancel the remainder of the season effective immediately. This applies to all our Hockey Programs: Intro to Hockey, Grassroots (Pond), Female & Male Mainstream (U7, U9, U11, U13, U15, U18) and the Lloydminster Elite Division.

Our thoughts are with the players who had a whole hockey season taken from them by the COVID-19 Pandemic. This is not the way any of us wanted to see the season finish.

Moving ahead we will be providing you with credit for your registration fees in accordance with the following guidelines:

All players will receive credit to next year’s registration fees. Exceptions are:

  • The player is in the final year of U18 (no longer eligible for Minor Hockey next season). If your older player is not returning next year, but has a younger sibling that will, the credit will be transferred to the younger sibling instead of a refund.
  • Any players that are considered draw zone players (primary residence is outside of the City of Lloydminster.

Any exceptions to the above refund policy will need to be submitted to the LMHA Office by completing the Refund Exception Form located on the LMHA website. This link will be Live Feb 15, 2021. 2021/22 Season Registration opens May 1, 2021.

LMHA is currently reviewing what the credit / refund amount will be for each registrant. We are waiting on additional information from Hockey Canada, Hockey Alberta and our leagues with regards to any reimbursements we may receive back from fees we have already paid upfront.

In the next couple weeks, we will also be communicating our equipment return plan to collect jerseys, goalie equipment, pucks and equipment bags. Please notify your jersey parents to make sure all jerseys are washed and name bars are removed. Be careful not to damage the jerseys. Any damages to jersey’s or equipment will be deducted from your credit/refund.

As heard from our members in the recent Survey LMHA conducted, LMHA is looking into options of a potential “development” season offering of some kind this spring if restrictions open up. Unfortunately, we have a lot of moving parts with dealing with current restrictions in both Provinces, however, we continue to explore a variety of avenues to see if this is a feasible or available option for LMHA.

We will communicate any additional information that may affect our members/players as it becomes available.

Thank you,

LMHA Board of Directors, Executive and Staff
