Updated Government Restrictions

Important COVID-19 Updates

As you are probably all aware, we have had major announcements from both provinces on each side of our border last week.

In Alberta the GOA and AHS put in place tighter restrictions that can be found at the following link, https://www.alberta.ca/enhanced-public-health-measures.aspx called Targeted Public Health Measures.

One of the restrictions was the complete shutdown of Indoor Sports Activities in certain Regions of the province; Fort McMurray, Grande Prairie, Edmonton, Red Deer, Calgary and Lethbridge.

In Saskatchewan the GOS and SHA have also communicated tighter restrictions which can be found at the link below:

https://www.lloydminster.ca/en/news/covid-19-mandatory-masking-in-indoor-public-spaces-effective-november-16.aspx

One of the new rules put in place in Saskatchewan that affects us all is the Mandatory use of Masks. The new rule states that Masks are required in all indoor public places. Per the Guidelines coaches/staff, officials and volunteers must wear a non-medical mask when two metres of physical distancing can be maintained.  If they are unable to maintain physical distancing, a surgical/procedure mask must be worn. LMHA is waiting for clarification from the City of Lloydminster regarding the requirement of Surgical masks.

I am also very disappointed to share with you that the Lloydminster Minor Hockey Association received correspondence from the SHA (Saskatchewan Health Authority) on November 8th with regards to a “serious breach of the public health order”. A member of LMHA whose Parent was told that their child was to isolate for 14 days defied the order and brought the child to the rink on Friday Nov. 6th to their game. This one single negligent act put the teammates, coaches, referees, parents, volunteers and spectators at risk. It also put our association at risk.

LMHA and its members rely on ALL of us to do our part to stop / minimize the spread of COVID-19 which includes following the Health orders.

Anyone found not following health orders maybe suspended indefinitely from all LMHA activities both on and off the ice. Blatant disregard of Health orders will not be tolerated as it could lead to a complete shutdown of LMHA.
